You’re Not Alone
They all said that college would be hard. However, nobody warned us how stressful college actually is. There are times when giving up feels like a viable option. Sometimes it feels like a never-ending cycle of drowning in work. We all struggle, but the good news is, it is not the end of the world. By reshaping your daily routines and mentality, the weight of college can and will get much better. Here are 10 ways how to deal with stress at school.
1. Go to a park.
Being stuck behind a desk all day in the library can drive anyone crazy. If you have a lot of exams to study for, change up the scenery and go to a park. Having a little fresh air can make a big difference and may make studying more bearable.
2. Treat yourself.
Rewards can be great motivation. If you’ve had a tough week go out and reward yourself. Aced that exam you worked so hard on? Buy yourself a milkshake. Buy a new outfit and go show it off.
3. Try a new experience.
It can be bad to overwork yourself. Give yourself a little break and get a few friends to go try something new. Find a karaoke bar and get your mind off of what is stressing you out.
4. Exercise.
Exercising can not only improve your physical health but also your mental health. Working out maybe that extra boost your self-esteem needed while also being a great escape to clear your head. A good work out is a good way how to deal with stress at school.
5. Your time.
Everybody needs a little bit of time to just escape from the world. Forget about pleasing everyone around you. Are you happy? Make sure you make time to do what makes you happy. Get some take-out and go see a movie.
6. Go for a long drive.
Ever felt so overwhelmed you just wanted to scream? Get in your car, put on “Mr. Brightside,” and get it all out. Guaranteed you will feel much better. This is my favorite answer to how to deal with stress at school.
7. Find a new hobby.
Always wanted to try soccer but never really got the chance to? Hop onto an intramural team and give a new sport a chance. Not only do you make new friends but you also get to do something fun that is a great distraction. Distractions are key to how to deal with stress at school.
8. Talk to someone.
If you’re feeling super stressed out chances are everyone around you are too. Call up an old friend and catch up or chat with someone new in class. There are also so many resources at every university that are so important to utilize. I know sometimes it may be uncomfortable but opening up to someone with a completely impartial view of us can be very beneficial.
9. Stay in the now.
We spend so much time worrying about the future. We act like one failure means a lifetime of failures. What is important is what is going on right now. Chances are, one test is not going to ruin your entire life.
10. Know you’re not alone.
Everyone feels it and it sucks but doesn’t let it get to you too much. Just know that those overwhelming feelings are being shared by all of your peers. You’re not crazy, we all find it hard to cope. Just know that the stress you’re feeling now is all going to pay off in the future.
